Scott Holupka, longtime Dundalk resident and community organization leader, won the Dundalk Citizen Of The Year Award for 2009. Holupka received the congratulatory phone call from actor and Dundalk historian Alec Baldwin, who told Holupka, that he, "Could not imagine a better choice for Citizen Of The Year," and that he will be in attendance when Holupka receives his award later this year. Baldwin first met Holupka while filming "GlenGarry GlenRoss" over 15 years ago and the two have maintained close ties since then. Per-Ulrik Swensson, the General Manager of the Dundalk Marriott Resort and Spa said that his property expects brisk business as out-of-towners book rooms during Award Week. "Last year we sold out of our regular rooms and this year for Holupka's week we would not be shocked if we sold out all deluxe rooms and all our suites as well. There will be no discounted rooms that week." The Mars Supermarket on Wise Avenue was the scene of the biggest celebrity citing in Dundalk last week when all the members of popular music group The Backstreet Boys were spotted shopping during the lunch hour. They came to Mars to load their refrigerators with quiche, fat-free yogurt, and creamed chipped beef. The Boys signed autographs in the aisles, placing their signatures on such diverse items as mayonnaise bottles, Sure antiperspirant, and packages of sausages. Lou Scannon of North Point Road was the first customer in Mars to identify the famous musicians and got the first autograph. April 24th promises to be a day of lively political discourse in Dundalk when Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean holds a series of town meetings starting in St. Helena, and proceeding to Eastfield and finally to Berkshire. This is not Howard Dean's first trip to Dundalk, many of you may remember that as a Presidential candidate in 2004, Dean worked out at least once a week at the Gold's Gym on Merritt Boulevard.
