Have you always dreamed of a career in digital film making? Then Longview Film School located at 611 Eastern Blvd. in Essex is the perfect spot to turn your dreams into reality. At Longview you will receive the best digital-media training possible so that when you leave you are prepared for a career in the real world. Jim Lingg, owner of the local film school, is extremely excited to welcome everyone who is interested. I think a lot of my students who enroll are going to really enjoy it here because of the location, explained Lingg. The great thing about the area is that we get to film along the waterfront and in wide open fields which you cant find in most areas. Longview is not your typical film school; its located inside a house rather than a studio. According to Lingg, the reasoning behind this is so that students will have a real-world experience versus filming inside a studio. When filming movies, almost none of it takes place inside of a studio; it all is captured out in the real world and I want my students to get a taste of what that is like, said Lingg. Essex is just a very chill area and many of the business owners here were very open to the idea, allowing students to have that experience. Lingg started his career at the age of 10 years old when he started building robots for a company formerly known as Image Engineering, which started out in Essex and has grown tremendously throughout the country. The company is known today as Advanced Entertainment Technologies. Lingg spent most of his time as a special effects designer, where he also worked on building lasers. Later on in his career, Lingg landed a job in Jacksonville, Maryland, where he worked 15 years for a major recording studio and learned everything there is to know about broadcasting and video production. I got a lot of experience and gained a lot of knowledge working there, but about two years ago I decided that I needed to venture out on my own because with the poor ecomony and everyone getting laid off I knew that I wasnt going to make it just as an employee anymore, acknowledged Lingg. With just the right amount of knowledge and skills, he was very successful when he decided to go about opening his own school. With 10 years of teaching experience under his belt, Lingg is very certain every student will leave with the skills necessary to grow in the film industry. Longview teaches everything from animation to web design and also helps to promote your freelance career by helping with resume building, attending networking events and marketing workshops. Workshops will begin on Sept. 7 with both full-time day workshops and part-time evening workshops. An open house will be held on Friday, Aug. 13, where prospective students can learn everything about the school and enjoy music as well as the classic Friday the 13th film. If youre looking to receive the best possible experience at Longview, the premium package would be the wisest decision. This includes all the workshops, plus students receive their own professional equipment and software which includes a Canon HD camcorder and your very own laptop. There is something for everyone even for those who cannot afford to go full-time. Longview offers individual workshops which are priced per workshop, private lessons as well as on-site training. Once enrolled at the school, you can participate in beneficial weekend workshops which include Stop Motion Animation that takes place on Saturday, Oct. 9, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. In this workshop students will be able to use toy figures to produce stop motion animation using motion picture cameras.
