If youre looking for a cozy yet elegant restaurant to take your loved ones, especially during these colder months of the year, the Williamsburg Inn in White Marsh is the perfect choice. The Colonial style restaurant is simply stunning, with a somewhat rustic feel to it, and three fireplaces that add warmth and charm to the intimate setting. It definitely looks like the kind of place you would want to go to celebrate a special occasion; however, the prices are reasonable and the dress is casual. So, dont think you have to wear a coat and tie or cocktail dress and shell out a ridiculous amount of money to dine here, because that is not the case at all. One of the biggest misconceptions about The Williamsburg Inn is that its really expensive, owner David Geer explained. Its reasonably priced, and you dont need a tie. As society has become more casual, so have we. Family owned since 1964, Geers Uncle Anthony, who passed away this year, was the restaurants original owner. Geer started working with his uncle back in 1983 and took over about five or six years ago. Geers mother does all the decorating, and the dining rooms are beautifully decked out for the holidays right now. My coworkers and I visited on a recent weekday for lunch. The lunch menu consists of appetizers such as potato skins and a variety of seafood inspired items, soups, sandwiches and light fare, burgers, crab cakes, seafood, steak and more. In addition to the regular menu items, daily specials are featured as well. We started our meal with the Oysters Rockefeller appetizer, oysters on the half shell topped with a mixture featuring spinach and Imperial sauce and broiled to perfection. Six huge oysters were delivered to our table, and we dug right in. These morsels were simply scrumptious and the Imperial sauce was so incredibly tasty. One coworker had never tried Oysters Rockefeller before but she quickly went back for a second oyster after thoroughly enjoying her first. I think I found a new favorite! she exclaimed. For our main entrees, we ordered the Crab Cake (of course!) and the Petite Filet Mignon from the regular menu and the Stir-Fry Seafood with Mushroom and the Stuffed Flounder from the list of daily specials. The plump Crab Cake was full of perfectly seasoned sweet tender crab meat and contained nary a shell. I ordered the Petite Filet Mignon, which is served with golden onion rings on top. The steak was cooked to order and was tender, juicy and really flavorful. I loved it! I also ordered mashed potatoes on the side and they were fabulous! (Yes, Im a meat and potatoes kind of girl!) My coworker said the Stir-Fry Seafood with Mushroom, featuring jumbo shrimp, scallops, onions and mushrooms in an XO sauce with steamed rice, was delicious. She noted how tasty the shrimp and mushrooms were in this dish but she especially enjoyed the scallops. These scallops are so good! she raved. Another coworker got the Broiled Stuffed Flounder Filet, which is stuffed with crab meat and topped with Imperial Sauce. Shes the one who loved the Oysters Rockefeller so much, so she again praised the Imperial sauce atop this dish, noting how incredibly tasty it is. We just couldnt resist trying some dessert, so we opted for the cheesecake and the apple pie. The cheesecake was really creamy and very good, and the apple pie was tremendous. I only wished wed ordered it a la mode! The dinner menu includes a variety of appetizers, soups, salads, seafood entrees, steaks, veal, chicken, pasta, lobster and even a light fare menu. Geer said The Williamsburg Inn is known for its prime rib, which can be found on the extensive dinner menu. We also have all fresh seafood, and our crab cakes are outstanding! he declared. We do a lot of stuff from scratch, including our salad dressings, he explained. As much as we can, we make homemade. In addition to daily lunch and dinner specials, the restaurant offers early bird specials as well. On Sundays from 9 a.m. - noon, they do a breakfast buffet for just $9.95. Described by one coworker as the perfect winter comfort food restaurant, The Williamsburg Inn also offers private rooms for business luncheons and dinners, private parties and wedding receptions for parties of 10-65. And hurry - theres still time to book your holiday party! The Williamsburg Inn is located at 11131 Pulaski Highway in White Marsh. In addition to the restaurant, affordable lodging is also available.
