Bruce Kahl: It’s Time for a Change

Ever since 2003, Lt. Col. Bruce Kahl has been making a difference in the community when he partnered up with former Governor Bob Erhlich to form the JROTC program at Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts.
According to Kahl, over the last seven years, this program has helped him identify the challenges parents are having as well as the economic struggle students within the local neighborhoods are facing.
“I am able to see the issues firsthand, which allows me to find solutions, such as making college more affordable,” said Kahl. “By finding ways to deal with their issues I am able to build relationships within the community.”
Kahl, who will be running as a Republican against Norman Stone in the Nov. 2 election, has held leadership positions in the Army and the National Guard for more than 28 years, which in his opinion has given him the skills to bring the community together as a whole.
“I want to be able to give people a choice and in order to do that I have made the decision to step up to the plate,” revealed Kahl. “The 6th District needs to be represented as a whole, and myself, along with my team of people who work with me and support me, can make that happen because I am not only a friend to the community but I know how things work and how things don’t work.”
In Kahl’s opinion, the most important aspect that sets him apart from Stone, who has been a member of the Maryland State Senate since 1967, is that he takes the time to sit down and listen to the people one-on-one.
“I will say that both Stone and I care about the people, but I am able to communicate and inspire change,” he said. “It is time for new ideas and innovation.”
If Kahl takes over as Senator, he has many visions he believes will strengthen the economy right here in Maryland and will make this area a place people are proud to be a part of and live in once again.
“I would like to bring new attractions such as a community pool to North Point State Park, which was one of the premiere amusement parks in Maryland from 1906 - 1947,” said Kahl. “Wouldn’t it be nice to bring the local neighbors together for fun and relaxation just like many years ago?”
He believes this will boost the economy because instead of people traveling outside of the state or out of their district to enjoy some clean and safe fun in the sun, they will spend their money right here at home. He also has a plan to make Fort Howard into a home for veterans, as well as making new trails within the park so the community can have new places to ride their bikes or to just go for a relaxing walk.
“I have many visions, but I also respect the people’s wishes and I want them to be a part of the plan and I would personally ask them what changes they would like to see before I made any actions,” Kahl explained.
He also noted the state needs to provide local businesses and retirees with a tax break. “I believe tax breaks can happen and that it desperately needs to happen soon, because so many businesses up and leave along with retirees because of how expensive it is to live here as well as to keep your business up and running,” noted Kahl.
Kahl revealed he is a very strong supporter of Facebook (social network) because it allows the community to always be informed of what plans he has and just allows them to know what he can offer as a leader.
“Technology such as Facebook is such a great way to interact with the people and for them to know that I am always listening,” he said.
Listening to the people is something he believes he and Jordan Hadfield both have in common.
“I have worked closely with Jordan in the past, and we agree on just about every issue,” noted Kahl. “His voters want to see change, and I believe they will see that in me because I do not only listen but I can become the voice of the community and move us forward.”
