Second District Councilman
Kevin Kamenetz today formally announced his candidacy for Baltimore
County Executive, and in so doing became the first candidate for County
Executive ever to announce his candidacy in Randallstown. Kamenetz
followed up that announcement by stopping at the Board of Elections in
Catonsville to officially file his candidacy, then repeated his
announcement at the Seahorse Restaurant in Dundalk. He followed up
those announcements with sign-waving displays in Dundalk and Fullerton,
before concluding with a ribbon-cutting at the Kamenetz headquarters in
Towson.
“Among my many achievements throughout 16 years on the County Council,
I am especially proud that we have never raised the property tax rate
or the income tax rate on our citizens - not once,” Kamenetz said. “And
we have done it without a reduction in the quality of services or
furloughing County employees. In short, we have done more with less -
and that’s exactly what I will do as your next County Executive.”
Kamenetz surprised the Randallstown crowd by having Senator Delores
Kelly introduce him. Senator Kelly praised Kamenetz for his work making
our neighborhoods safer, improving our schools, and working to create
more jobs and enhance economic opportunities for people all over the
County. Then she proclaimed, “I know who I’m voting for in the County
Executive’s race - Kevin Kamenetz.”
“I am thrilled to accept Senator Kelly’s support,” Kamenetz said.
“Delores Kelly has been a member of the Senate Finance Committee for
more than a decade, so she knows how difficult it is to balance a
budget without raising property taxes or income taxes and without
cutting valuable services. Maintaining fiscal discipline while meeting
the growing needs of our community - especially with regard to more
jobs - is critical to our success, and I very much appreciate Senator
Kelly’s strong words of support.”
In this campaign, Kamenetz has worked to reach out to all areas of the
County, and that was apparent with his announcement in Dundalk. Council
Chairman John Olszewski declared he was endorsing Kamenetz because the
two would work as “partners” to improve the County. “Kevin Kamenetz
does not think in terms of east or west, he thinks in terms of forward
and backward, and he is committed to moving our County forward - and
that’s why I’m supporting him,” Olszewski told a hundred cheering
supporters at the Seahorse Restaurant.
Kamenetz concluded his day at his Towson headquarters, telling over 200
supporters, “My campaign is about listening, then leading. You’ve
told me over the past several months that you want safer neighborhoods,
better schools, more jobs and fiscal responsibility - and that’s
exactly what I have fought for during my time on County Council. If I
am fortunate enough to be your next County Executive, I’ll be ready to
hit the ground running on Day One, and continue our efforts to build a
better Baltimore County.”
