Metzgar Candidate for House of Delegates
- by Diane Carliner -

Pastor Ric Metzgar is well known and loved throughout his home base of Essex and elsewhere on the east side of the county. His volunteerism and deep concern about people are local treasures. You may have seen or heard about him co-chairing Essex Day, advocating for seniors, helping to organize concerts in the park or participating in the Dundalk Parade.
He would like to be elected to the 6th District House of Delegates to work for change. A Republican, he believes in fiscal conservatism and has conservative values. “Jobs need to be created, local blighted business districts need to be revived and there should be better mentoring programs for our youth to get them off drugs and alcohol and get them away from gangs,” he said.
Metzgar wants more help for veterans. He would also like to undo the current law which gives illegal immigrants or their children reductions in college tuition. He is concerned about the economy as well and would like property taxes to be reduced for seniors so that taxes would be in line with the market value of their homes. He is organizing a program called Men of Action to bring retired plumbers, electricians and carpenters together to volunteer to help seniors.
Metzgar is an ordained interdenominational minister. In his youth he attended the Northwest Bible College of Minot, North Dakota, where he obtained a clinical pastoral education. Later on he became an administrator in church development. He is the founder of the Gateway Church Pastors Association and a member of the Church of God on Maryland Avenue in Essex. His regular job is as a general manager of G & W Motors on Eastern Boulevard. He has been married for 34 years, has two sons and a grandchild.
“I would be proud to serve Essex, Dundalk and Edgemere. It would be my honor to be a willing servant for our area. I am your leader with a vision, and I can say ‘no’ or ‘yes’ when necessary. I will be a strong advocate for our community,” he stated.
