The front cover of Carroll Island Diners menu sums the restaurant up best: Something for everybody. Whether youre in the mood for pancakes and eggs, soup and a sandwich or a seafood platter with a baked potato, youll find it all and more at Carroll Island Diner. And even if youre craving those pancakes and eggs at dinner, its no problem. Everything on the menu, no matter if its breakfast, lunch and dinner, is available all day long. Locally owned and operated, the cozy and comfortable restaurant is a place you can take your entire family. And not only are the prices reasonable, all the food is delicious too. My co-worker and I visited on a recent weekday for lunch. Owner Glee Smith cooked us up a variety of items so we could sample a few of the popular items. First up was the Omelette of Omelettes, consisting of ham, cheese, green pepper, onion and salsa, served with toast on the side. What a scrumptious omelette! Light and fluffy egg, cooked just right, with a mix of add-ins that made the omelette so flavorful. Yum! The breakfast menu features several varieties of omelettes, pancakes, waffles and skillets, as well as two egg and three egg combinations. Next we tried the Grilled Chicken Caesar Sandwich, a tender and juicy chicken breast on grilled Parmesan sourdough bread with lettuce, tomato and Caesar dressing. Wow! The chicken was bursting with flavor, and the bread this sandwich is served on was just incredible. Carroll Island Diners lunch menu is extensive as well, with everything from soup, salad and sandwiches to burgers and skillet meals. There are several seafood sandwiches available too, like fish, crab cake, crab imperial and even soft crab. Last, but certainly not least, we sampled the diners crab cake. Broiled to golden brown perfection, this crab cake was really, really good. Mild in its seasoning and with very little filler, there wasnt a shell to be found throughout the cake. This cake was quite delectable. The dinner menu features a wealth of entrees, including surf & turf, seafood, steaks, chicken, pork and pasta. A kids menu is available, and the dessert menu is plentiful as well. Believe me, youll have a difficult time choosing because theres so much from which to choose and its all tasty. Smith, a Chase resident, opened the Carroll Island Diner back in November 2003. He and his mother Sue were previous owners of the IHOP on Merritt Boulevard in Dundalk. Smith, who is at the diner every day, has over 20 years experience in the restaurant business, while his wife Karen, who usually cooks at the diner in the mornings, has been in the industry more than 30 years. Their experience shows - the restaurant is clean and comfortable, the service is great and the food is wonderful. Carroll Island Diner is located in the Carroll Island Shopping Center at 162 Carroll Island Road. The diner is open seven days a week, Monday - Thursday, 8 a.m. - 10 p.m., Friday & Saturday, 7 a.m. - 10 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. Be sure to check out the $6.99 lunch specials and the 2 for $20 dinners available Monday - Friday.
