If you enjoy a good steak, baby back ribs make your mouth water and you just cant get enough barbeque pulled pork, then you definitely need to head over to the new Buckhead Cattle Company Restaurant on Pulaski Highway in Middle River where meat rules the roost. Although their slogan is Eat more beef, customers will also find chicken and pork featured as well. The restaurant, previously Catches, has been turned into a space that boasts a warm, inviting hunting lodge feel, complete with deer head wall mounts and heads of other animals like elk and moose. Its a beautiful and spacious building, with a dining room, a bar/lounge, a private dining room in the back, plus a new VIP area with couches available to reserve for your party of 8 - 20. Buckheads owners are four friends whove known each other for years, although one prefers to remain a silent partner. When my coworker and I visited the restaurant recently for dinner, we had the pleasure of meeting the other three - Tim Bennett, John Robb and Danny Stroup. With more than 25 years experience, Tim is no stranger to the restaurant business; however, this is a brand new venture for John, a mortgage banker, and Danny, a business owner. Were learning as we go, they said. First and foremost, Buckhead is a steakhouse but secondly, it is a sports bar. With 20 televisions located throughout the restaurant and a sports package subscription, this is a fun place to watch your favorite team play. Lastly, its a nightclub, with DJ music and a dance floor. For now, the focus is on the restaurant and the food. The menu is limited, because what they do, they want to do well. Open just a month and a half, theyve been selling a ton of burgers and wings. A table of steak connoisseurs said the steak was the best theyd had in the area. Im a steak lover, so I had to try their 6 oz. petite filet, which comes with two side items of your choice. All of the side dishes are homemade, except the French fries which are pre-cut. I went with the sauteed spinach and the mac & cheese. The slightly salty, well seasoned filet was cooked to order and was tender, juicy and flavorful. The only downside? I wished Id ordered the 10-ounce instead of the 6-ounce! The sides were great too. The fresh, vibrantly green spinach was really tasty and the mac & cheese was superb. So cheesy, hot and bubbly, this creamy pasta side is the ultimate comfort food. We also ordered whats called The Buckhead Belly Buster, which consists of half portions of baby back ribs and barbecue chicken, slow roasted beef brisket or barbeque pulled pork, sweet corn, baked beans, coleslaw, French fries and cornbread. Served family style, this one serves 2-3 people. We got ours with both the brisket and the pulled pork. The delicious pulled pork barbeque was my favorite. Paired withthe cole slaw, which is tangy and not too sweet, it was the perfect combination of flavors. The ribs were succulent and the barbecue sauce was really good. The beef brisket, sliced thin, was tender and tasty. I took leftovers of the barbecue chicken home to my husband who devoured it. This chicken is ridiculous! he said. John ordered the gourmet pork chop meal and we couldnt resist having a taste. Wow! This was definitely the best pork chop Ive ever had. My coworker agreed and said she was definitely going to order it the next time she ate at Buckhead. Buckhead also serves burgers and sandwiches, soups, salads, appetizers and wings, which Danny explained are the original authentic Buffalo wings. Its a secret recipe, and all the varieties are spicy to some degree. Wednesday is Burger & Fries Night, featuring your choice of 12 specialty burgers served with fries for just $6. Why not get out of the kitchen and try it tonight? Or visit Thanksgiving night to relax after the big meal while cheering your hometown team to victory. Buckhead opens at 6 p.m. The kitchen will be closed, but drink specials will be offered. Kickoff is at 8:20 p.m. You can also earn chances to win Ravens vs. Colts tickets!
